Lips Pillow DIY with FREE Pattern
For my Valentine's Day decor this year I made this red hot lips pillow to add a pop of color to my studio. You might have spotted this red lips pillow in our last blog post where I shared the decor for my Valentine's Day mantel? Well, I absolutely LOVE how this pillow turned out, and it's one of my most fav DIYs to date!
This lips accent pillow adds such a fun touch to any Valentine's Day decor, and they'd make great presents for your Galentines or BFFs! 👄

Come to think of it, making the pillows together might also be a super fun crafty activity to do with your best gals on Valentine's Day, right?
Red is my favorite color, so naturally I went with a red fabric for my DIY lips pillow, but you could totally change the color and texture of the fabric to suit your own home decor or taste.
My daughter has already snagged this red pillow for her bedroom, and I can't wait to make some more in other colors, like fuchsia pink! Or even make one with a sparkly or metallic gold fabric. Talk about dreamy, right? 😍
For this DIY lips pillow project, I created my own lips template that you can download for FREE below.
So basically, to create your pattern you can either take it to a professional printer and print it larger (like A3 size), or do what I did; and freehand by using the smaller template as a guide.
Once you watch the video, the method will become clearer.
Apart from your fabric of choice, you'll need some pillow stuffing (from an old cushion or pillow) or polyester fiber fill that you can buy in most sewing or craft stores.
The cheapest option is simply to buy an inexpensive pillow from Walmart or Target and use the insides of that.
For the fabric like I said, it's up to you what you use to suit your own home decor colors and taste. I personally recycled some red cotton fabric I already had at home, but velvet might be a really nice alternative too.
You can also sew the pillow by hand or even use hot glue (if you can't sew). I used a sewing machine because that's the quickest way for me. But I did finish it off with a dab of hot glue. Nothing wrong with that!
But if you go the hot glue route, make sure to only hand-wash the pillows or dry-clean them if you prefer.
This lips pillow is also a super easy to make DIY that really doesn't take long at all, especially if you use a sewing machine like I did.

Lips Pillow DIY with FREE Pattern - quick and easy craft project to decorate your home or bedroom for Valentine's Day or to gift to someone you love!
materials:
- Fabric in your choice of color
- Pillow stuffing

- Free lips sewing pattern - download yours here!
tools:
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Sewing machine or needle and thread

steps:
- Print your sewing lips pattern onto A4 paper and cut it out.
- Transfer the pattern to a large piece of cardboard and sketch out a larger size for the lips with a pencil ( Alternatively, you can print the pattern at A3 size or larger, and forego this step.)
- Cut your larger lips pattern and trace it onto your fabric. This will be the front of your pillow.
- Cut it out, leaving a 2 cm (1 inch) seam allowance all the way around the lips.
- Use this larger cut-out from step 4 above to draw another pair of lips onto another piece of fabric for the back of your pillow, then cut it out.
- Pin the two lips together with the right sides facing each other, then sew around them with a straight running stitch by machine or by hand, leaving a gap on the top and bottom where you'll be able to fill your pillow.
- Cut little slits all along the seam allowance, then turn the pillow inside out.
- Use your template to draw the lips center line.
- Sew a straight running stitch along this line.
- Fill the top and bottom of your pillow.
- Hot glue the openings or sew them shut with an invisible stitch.
