Valentine's Day Cheese and Charcuterie Board
Grazing boards are still as popular as ever!
I've seen (and made myself) quite a few variations on the classic cheese and charcuterie boards - I've made vegetables grazing boards, chocolate grazing boards, brunch boards, and even a Taco Board!
But the classic, savory cheese and charcuterie is what my family likes best. So for this Valentine's Day, I lovingly put together a "pretty in pink " (and red 😁) cheese and charcuterie board filled with yummy treats to celebrate love day at home!
Valentine's Day Cheese and Charcuterie Board
I think the attraction of these cheese and charcuterie boards is the fact that there is very little cooking involved. It's basically a game of assembling produce prettily on a platter. And anyone can do that!
Plus, it is infinitely more fun and more laid back to all gather around and tuck into a giant board stuffed with delicious foods, am I right?
Not to mention that these boards can be whipped up quite quickly with ingredients, pantry staples and nibbles you may already have at home, so it can also be quite inexpensive.
This is an opportunity to use up canned or cooked vegetables and create tasty dips and sides, like the beetroot hummus I served on his board.
I also try to incorporate a lot of vegetables and fruits (fresh, dried or as chips) on these types of boards, in order to balance out all the fat in the cured meats and cheeses!
You can also include nuts, herbs, jams, honey and anything that you like to add to accompany your cheeses and cured meats.
Not forgetting bread sticks or crackers of some sort. I used rice crackers (for my gluten-intolerant hubby) and some salty pizza cracker for the kids on the side.
For this Valentine's Day cheese and charcuterie board, I opted for mostly red and pink foods and produce, but that's totally optional 😉
Below is a list of the ingredients used in this pink and red Valentine's Day cheese and charcuterie board:
- Beetroot hummus
- Camembert cheese with pomegranate jam heart (use a cookie cutter to hollow out the cheese and place a layer of jam inside)
- Chorizo slices
- Black Forest cured ham (or Parma ham works too)
- Goat's cheese
- Provolone and Swiss cheese slices
- Garlic sausage
- Rice crackers
- Salty pizza crackers
- Sundried tomatoes
- Radishes
- Cherry tomatoes
- Red seedless grapes
- Red pepper sticks
- Dried cranberries
For the beetroot hummus, I used my go-to hummus recipe, then I added couple of small, cooked beetroots in chunks to the mixer. Voila!
When it comes to assembling these grazing boards, there is no specific rule, apart from trying to make things look pretty.
Since this is a Valentine's Day cheese and charcuterie board, I took out a couple of heart cookies cutters and cut the cheese slices and sausage meat to add a little "love" to my boards. 🥰
I also tend to arrange my boards this way:
1) Add the bigger items on the board first, like the cheeses and cured meats.
2) Then, fill the gaps with fruits, vegetables, sauces, dips, nuts and crackers.
And don't worry if you need to re-arrange things to make everything look "balanced" and pleasing to the eye. 😉
Check out the quick time-lapse video below to see this easy procedure in place!
🥰 PS - I really like this idea for a simple Valentine's Day starter.
