Now that summer's ending, this is the perfect recipe to make the most of those Cantaloupe melons which are still abundantly available, but not quite at their best.
A few summers ago, my husband successfully grew cantaloupe melons from seed in our garden, and it's become one of favorite summer fruits! This year we have added it to salads, smoothies, fruit salads...and now, this delicious and refreshing melon lemonade!
Cantaloupe Melon Lemonade
I LOVE making my Brazilian lemonade every summer when limes are at their best and really inexpensive In the past, I have added other fruits to the basic recipe to make funkier lemonades, like peaches or passion fruit like in this recipe I shared here on the blog.
So this time, I decided to add some Cantaloupe melons which were a little too green to eat raw.
The sweetness of the melons really added another level of yumminess to this drink, made it thicker, gave it a beautiful sunset-yellow hue and was super refreshing too! I don't know what it is about melons that work so well as a cooling summer drink, but I'm a fan!
This melon lemonade recipe can be tailored to suit whatever melons you may have on hand. You can also substitute the limes for lemons. The tanginess is a little milder with lemons, but it will taste just as good!
For sweetness, sometimes we add the traditional condensed milk as called for in the original Brazilian lemonade recipe. But mots often, we add a skinnier sweetener like Sucralose, or owe leave it without sugar (which my husband prefers).
You can totally make this refreshing beverage a few hours in advance, but it's best served straight away.
I also use a blender to make things simpler, and do not peel my citrus fruit. So make sure you wash the rind very well beforehand, or use organic limes and lemons for this one.
If you want, you can peel the citrus fruits before adding it to the blender. the only difference is that you'll get a milder lime flavor, which you may prefer?
The trick to making this recipe is to use cold water when making up the juice and serve it with ice cubes.
As a garnish, you can add a little slice of melon and mint leaves for serving a crowd and making it look Instagram worthy 😉👍
This delicious drink is great to serve to the whole family, and also tastes fab with a dash of Brazilian rum or Vodka if you want to turn it in to a cocktail!
